According to The Times, Britain’s King Charles III is set to visit the United States in 2026, marking the first visit by a reigning British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 2007.

The newspaper reported that King Charles and the Prince of Wales, Prince William, are expected to make separate visits to the United States in the coming year.

“Active discussions are underway,” the report said, adding that the King’s visit is very likely to take place in April.

This visit would be the first by a British monarch to the United States in nearly two decades.

Prince William is also expected to travel to North America around the same time that the United States, Canada, and Mexico host the FIFA World Cup.

The Times noted that the planned visits coincide with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and are part of broader efforts to formalize a trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Earlier, the Financial Times reported that the United States had suspended its technology agreement with the UK amid dissatisfaction in Washington over negotiations with London.

In September, the office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom and the United States had agreed to jointly invest nearly $380 billion in each other’s economies.
