King Charles III celebrates his 77th birthday today, Friday, with Buckingham Palace releasing a new portrait of the monarch dressed in casual attire on the grounds of Sandringham.
In an unconventional celebration, the King is spending his 77th birthday in South Wales, at Cyfarthfa Castle near Merthyr Tydfil, which is also marking its 200th anniversary.
According to The Telegraph, King Charles will enjoy a slice of birthday cake with friends at Cyfarthfa Castle, where he and Queen Camilla are attending a reception held in honor of the castle’s bicentenary.
The reception will bring together several well-known Welsh figures, including: screenwriter and actress Ruth Jones and fashion designer Julien Macdonald
The event will also include representatives from charities and organizations supported by the King and Queen, among them The King’s Foundation and the Royal Osteoporosis Society, as well as a number of local businesses.
At the end of the reception, King Charles will be invited to cut his birthday cake, before meeting members of the local community outside the castle.
Meanwhile, in London’s Green Park, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired 41 ceremonial rounds in celebration of His Majesty’s birthday.
