"Russia has lost 15,300 soldiers since troops invaded Ukraine on February 24," Ukraine's Presidency claimed. It also said that Russian soldiers had lost 506 tanks and 1,556 armored vehicles.

The figures provided by Ukrainian officials can not yet be verified, and experts stress that it is in the interest of warring countries to provide higher estimates of enemy casualties.

Earlier this month, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that 498 of its troops had been killed in Ukraine and 1,597 wounded - the first time it had acknowledged the loss of lives since its invasion of Ukraine.

A pro-Kremlin tabloid reported yesterday that there were official figures showing that 9,861 Russian troops had been killed in Ukraine - before quickly deleting the news, saying the figures were inaccurate. Conservative U.S. estimates last week suggested that more than 7,000 Russian troops had been killed in less than three weeks of fighting.
