Ukrainian officials on Monday said that the Ukrainian government helped evacuate about 20 thousand Indian students from areas attacked by Russian forces, but more than 2 thousand students are still trapped in various towns and cities.

Iryna Vereshchuk, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine mentioned that 2046 foreign students from 27 countries are unable to leave towns or cities; including Sumy, Chernihiv, Mariupol', Kherson.

Last February, thousands of foreign students rushed to leave Ukraine before the start of the Russian invasion, at the recommendation of several governments, but many of them remained in the country, pending administrative procedures.

Many students hesitated to leave the country, out of fear of losing years of study, especially since several universities were refusing to pursue their studies from distance learning.

Meanwhile, Russia announced a ceasefire in several Ukrainian cities starting from Monday morning, and opened humanitarian corridors in several regions.

A Russian task force that a ceasefire would begin on Monday morning, day 12 of the war, in order for civilians to leave the capital Kyiv, the coastal city of Mariupol', Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine, as well as the city of Sumy.

It was not clear whether the attack would stop outside the aforementioned areas, as well as the duration of this truce.

The declaration comes after two failed attempts to evacuate civilians from Mariupol', from which the International committee of the Red Cross estimated the 200,000 people were trying to flee.

Russia and Ukraine accused each other of causing the ceasefire to fail.
