The Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture, Mykola Zolsky, said that the world may face a shortage of wheat for at least three seasons, as a result of blocking much of the Ukrainian crop from the market.
Zolsky added that this is likely to push prices towards record levels.
He warned that Ukraine will be excluded from the international market for a long time, according to statements the Ukrainian minister made to "Reuters".
It is noteworthy that before its war with Russia, Ukraine used to export 6 million tons of wheat per month, as this number decreased to 300,000 tons in March, while it recorded about one million tons in April.
In the same context, Russia is blocking Ukrainian grain export sea lines, while Ukraine has planted 6.5 million hectares of wheat for its 2022 crop, but farmers can harvest the crop in only five million hectares in government-controlled areas.
