The Ukrainian government has suspended the export of many agricultural commodities amid the Russian war on the country.

The Interfax Ukrin news agency said on Sunday, citing a government decision, that exports of rye, oats, millet, buckwheat, salt, sugar, meat and livestock have been suspended.

Ukraine is a major agricultural producer and exporter in the world. Its exports are dominated by cereals and vegetable oils.

The Arab countries, together, import 60% of their grain needs from Russia and Ukraine, in addition to France and Romania.

But Russia and Ukraine have a special international weight in supplying the Arab world with grain, given their low price in the two countries.

The continuation of the war in Ukraine after the Russian invasion raises fears of an outbreak of a food crisis in several Arab countries, which usually import grain, especially wheat, from Russia and Ukraine.
