Ukraine has reaffirmed its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, warning that actions which violate international law risk creating dangerous precedents and destabilizing the wider region.

Speaking to Ukrinform, Heorhii Tykhyi, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Kyiv firmly supports Somalia’s unity in line with its constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the Charter of the United Nations. He noted that Ukraine and Somalia established diplomatic relations this year on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Tykhyi cautioned all states against steps that undermine international law, stressing that such actions could have serious consequences for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, across the African continent, and globally. He added that Ukraine encourages all parties to resolve long-standing disputes through diplomatic dialogue.

The statement follows Israel becoming the first country to recognize the self-declared state of Somaliland, a move that has drawn widespread criticism. The decision was condemned by Egypt and Turkey, while the African Union reiterated that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump said the United States does not support recognizing Somaliland, underscoring growing international concern over the implications of the decision.
