Ukraine Evacuates 17,000 People from Flooded Areas after Kakhovka Dam Destruction

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said, Tuesday, that more than 17,000 people were evacuated from flooded areas after the destruction of the Kakhovka dam.

Kostin said on social media: "Over 40,000 people are in danger of being flooded. Ukrainian authorities are evacuating over 17,000 people,"

He added that more than 25,000 people should be evacuated from areas nearby the Dnipro River.

Earlier,  Ukrainian Foreign Minister (FM) Dmytro Kuleba condemned the destruction of Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson city.

"Russia destroyed the dam, which resulted in the largest technological disaster in Europe in decades, and endangered the lives of thousands of civilians. This is a heinous war crime," he said.

The Russian forces had blew up the Kakhovka Dam, where the water reaches critical levels within five hours.

The local residents are being evacuated from potential flood areas, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of regional military administration in Kherson.

The Ukrainian army blamed Russia for destroying the dam.
