Ukraine has declared Saturday a national day of mourning for the victims of the An-26 plane crash on Friday, according to media reports.
The local authorities in Kharkov province stated that they declared mourning, saying: “We declare September 26, in Kharkov Province, 2020 a day of mourning for those killed in the An-26 plane crash.”
The Ukrainian Emergency Service announced yesterday in a statement that an An-26 military transport plane crashed near Kharkov Airport, eastern Ukraine. The plane was carrying 27 people on board, including crew members and cadets of the Kharkov University of the Air Force.
The Emergency Service indicated that the accident resulted in killing 25 people on board, while two students managed to escape death, but are suffering 90% burns in their body.
The authorities opened an investigation into the accident to find out the reason behind the crash.
