The death toll from the Russian attack on a shopping mall in Ukraine has risen to 18.

Dmytro Lunin, the governor of the Ukrainian region, Poltava, announced the latest casualty figures this morning, Tuesday, via the Telegram application, after the continuation of rescue and combing operation in the city of Kremenchuk.

Prosecutor's office in Ukraine mentioned that about 60 people were injured in Monday's attack, and more than 40 people have yet to be found.

Ukraine blames Russia for the attack, saying that X-22 air-to-ground missiles fired from long-range Tu-22 launchers were used.

“The occupiers launched a missile strike at the shopping center. There were more than a thousand civilians. The mall is on fire, rescuers are extinguishing fire, number of victims is unimaginable,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on the messaging app, Telegram.

The local authorities said that they managed to put out the fire yesterday evening.

Locals were seen helping the medics and first responders provide first aid to the victims of the attack and help put the injured in ambulances.

In London, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the missile attack on a crowded Ukrainian shopping mall as a “horrific attack.”

“Once again our condolences are with the families of innocent victims in Ukraine,” he added.
