The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Tuesday it had received a report of an incident 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates.
The agency did not immediately provide details about the nature of the incident, the vessels involved or whether there were any casualties or damage.
Fujairah, located on the Gulf of Oman outside the Strait of Hormuz, is one of the region’s key shipping hubs and an important refuelling and oil export point.
The report comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased concerns over maritime security in waterways surrounding the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage through which a significant share of global oil exports passes.
Shipping routes in the region have faced repeated disruptions in recent years due to conflicts and geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States and regional armed groups.
The UKMTO, which monitors maritime security threats in the region, regularly issues advisories to commercial vessels operating in Middle Eastern waters.
