UK Withdraws Diplomats from Iran

The UK has withdrawn its remaining diplomatic staff from Iran as security conditions deteriorate amid ongoing US airstrikes on Iranian targets.

In a statement, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said the decision was taken due to the worsening security situation. The British embassy will continue operating remotely, while the government renewed its warning against all travel to Iran, stating that British nationals and dual citizens face a significant risk of arrest, questioning or detention.

The move came hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the completion of the 12th wave of strikes targeting Iranian naval capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance systems and other defense assets. The US military said the operations were aimed at reducing Iran's ability to threaten maritime security in the region.

CENTCOM said the latest strikes had successfully weakened Iran's military capabilities. Meanwhile, Iran launched missiles, and Kuwait said its air defenses had intercepted drone attacks, highlighting the growing regional impact of the conflict.

The escalation follows earlier warnings from US President Donald Trump, who threatened to destroy an Iranian bridge or power station for every ship attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has vowed an "eye for an eye" response to any attacks targeting Iran's infrastructure.
