The United Kingdom has announced the development of a new military reconnaissance satellite named Juno, set to launch by 2027.
This strategic initiative will bolster national security and operational intelligence capabilities, marking a significant advancement in the UK's defense infrastructure.
The £40 million project has been entrusted to Surrey Satellite Technology, a leader in satellite innovation.
According to the government's statement, the Juno satellite will be constructed entirely in the UK and is designed to support a range of critical operations, including military surveillance, natural disaster monitoring, and terrain mapping.
The announcement follows the successful deployment of the Tyche satellite in August. This satellite, launched by the UK Space Command, is capable of capturing high-resolution daytime imagery and video footage of Earth.
Juno is expected to complement Tyche’s capabilities, enhancing the country’s ability to gather intelligence and respond to various operational demands.
