UK to Deploy Aircraft Carrier Group to the North Atlantic, Starmer Says

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will deploy an aircraft carrier strike group to the North Atlantic later this year, underlining London’s commitment to collective defense and Euro-Atlantic security.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Starmer said the operation will involve close coordination with the United States, Canada, and other members of NATO.

The prime minister stressed that the deployment reflects the UK’s role in strengthening deterrence and maintaining stability in the North Atlantic region amid growing global security challenges.

Starmer also called for “deeper ties” between the UK and the European Union, arguing that Europe must take greater responsibility for its own defense commitments.

He emphasized that closer cooperation among European partners is essential, noting that the continent should be able to rely more on itself in addressing security threats, while remaining firmly anchored within the broader NATO framework.
