The United Kingdom is bracing for its hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures are forecast to soar to 30°C on Friday, surpassing the previous 2025 high of 29.3°C recorded at Kew Gardens in west London on 1 May.

Despite the soaring heat, the UK is also expected to face severe weather conditions over the next three days, including heavy thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to the Met Office, some regions may experience up to two inches (50mm) of rainfall in just a few hours, accompanied by gusts reaching 80 km/h between Thursday and Saturday.

Friday’s anticipated temperature spike could make parts of the UK warmer than popular summer destinations such as Ibiza, Mykonos and Los Angeles, marking a sharp contrast between intense heat and volatile weather.

The unusual weather pattern has prompted meteorologists to urge caution, particularly in areas at risk of flash flooding and travel disruption due to the heavy rainfall. The combination of heat and storms highlights the unpredictable nature of the UK's summer climate in 2025.

Weather officials continue to monitor the evolving situation and recommend that residents stay informed through regular updates, especially in regions likely to be affected by the strongest storms.
