British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to visit Egypt in the coming period to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, British Ambassador to Cairo Mark Bryson-Richardson said.

According to the British ambassador, the visit would include the launch of a strategic partnership covering several sectors, including trade, the economy, education and healthcare, in addition to supporting green transition efforts.

Bryson-Richardson said a delegation of British companies interested in investing in the Egyptian market would accompany Starmer during the visit.

He noted that agreements expected to be signed during the visit would be announced once negotiations are finalized and the deals are officially concluded.

The ambassador said trade exchange between Egypt and Britain exceeded $5 bn last year, noting that new British investments are currently being prepared in coordination with Egyptian government authorities.

He further mentioned that the planned investments could reach billions of dollars by the end of 2026, with a focus on energy infrastructure projects as well as education, healthcare and other key sectors.

On tourism, the ambassador said British visitor numbers to Egypt rose annually to around 1.2 mn tourists last year despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

British tourists continue to travel to Egyptian destinations to enjoy the country’s beaches, sunshine and historical sites in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan, he said, adding that tourism flows remain at normal levels.

The planned visit comes as Egypt and Britain seek to deepen economic and investment ties amid growing cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure development and trade.
