UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced, on Wednesday, that he will attend UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Sunak said in a statement: "There is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change."

He added: "There is no energy security without investing in renewables. That is why I will attend COP27 next week: to deliver on Glasgow's legacy of building a secure and sustainable future."

A few days ago, Downing Street revealed that the UK's Prime Minister won't attend the event due to "other pressing domestic commitments," which sparked wide controversy in British society, especially, after the news of King Charles III's absence from COP 27.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer criticized Sunak, accusing him of a "failure of leadership."

In the same context, Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Sky News that he would attend the conference.
