UK Prime Minister (PM) Keir Starmer and Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah discussed bilateral relations during a phone call on Sunday.

According to a statement from the UK Prime Minister's Office, Starmer praised the historic and close ties between the United Kingdom and Kuwait, which span over 125 years.

The two leaders explored ways to enhance cooperation in defense, security, trade, and investment, emphasizing their shared commitment to strengthening the partnership across various sectors.

Starmer congratulated Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah on the success of the Gulf Summit held last December and reiterated the UK's commitment to working on a free trade agreement, with ongoing negotiations to achieve this goal.

Regarding Kuwaiti investments in the UK, both sides discussed new opportunities to foster economic growth in both countries across all sectors.

They also emphasized the importance of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in addressing the issue of missing persons from the First Gulf War. Both leaders welcomed the extension of the mission's mandate until December 31, 2025, underscoring the need to establish an appropriate mechanism to continue this vital work.
