British Prime Minister (PM) Keir Starmer discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation during phone calls with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
According to a statement published on the official British government website, the French President congratulated the British Prime Minister and wished him success with his new government.
Regarding bilateral relations, Starmer expressed his eagerness to strengthen the close cooperation between the United Kingdom and France.
The two leaders also discussed the upcoming NATO and European Political Community summits, emphasizing the importance of these early opportunities to discuss shared priorities, including conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, climate change, artificial intelligence, migration, and the economy.
During his phone call with Scholz, Starmer discussed the strong relationship between the United Kingdom and Germany, stating that he looks forward to elevating the relationship to a higher level during his premiership.
Starmer also highlighted the opportunity to deepen defense and security ties between the two countries, along with building greater economic cooperation.
While discussing their upcoming visits to the NATO summit in Washington, the two leaders spoke about the importance of ensuring strong long-term support for Ukraine.
