UK Parl't Ratifies Post-Brexit Trade Deal

On Wednesday, the British House of Commons overwhelmingly approved the trade deal reached by London and Brussels to regulate their post-Brexit relations, according to AFP.

MPs voted to approve the post-Brexit trade deal by 521 to 73 votes.

The legislation, known as the EU (Future Relationship) Bill, later passed the House of Lords on Wednesday evening in an unusually rapid one-day procedure, according to DW.

Then, the bill received final approval from Queen Elizabeth, enabling it to officially comes into force, as of Thursday.

Ahead of the vote, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the deal would allow Britain to become a "friendly neighbor, best friend, and ally" to the 27-member bloc.

It is worth mentioning that, earlier Wednesday, the European Union (EU) leaders officially signed the Brexit trade agreement.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel signed the deal reached with the UK.

On Twitter, Von der Leyen said, “Today, @eucopresident and I signed the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Prime Minister @BorisJohnson will sign it later today in London.”

“It has been a long road. It’s time now to put Brexit behind us,” she added. “Our future is made in Europe.”
