King Charles III of the United Kingdom (UK) on Tuesday tasked the new Conservative Party leader, Rishi Sunak, with forming the new government.
Royal officials published pictures showing the king and Sunak shaking hands at Buckingham Royal Palace during a session formalizing Sunak's appointment, after Liz Truss submitted her resignation earlier in the day. Truss had the shortest rule in Britain's history, as her reign lasted only 45 days, according to the BBC Television.
Former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, won the leadership of the Conservative Party, after his only rival, Benny Mordaunt, withdrew from the electoral race at the last minute before the deadline for receiving nominations expired, to become the new head of government, succeeding Terrace.
Sunak, 42, is the youngest prime minister in modern British history, and the first British prime minister of Asian descent.
