UK Grants Egypt 4 Mln COVID-19 Vaccine Doses

The United Kingdom granted Egypt with four million COVID-19 vaccine doses, the UK Embassy in Cairo announced.

Gareth Bayley, the UK Ambassador to Cairo tweeted that four million vaccine doses arrived at the Cairo International Airport last night as a donation by the UK through the international platform for vaccine distribution the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access.

He added that this is the largest bilateral vaccine denotations around the world.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, charge d’affair of the Minister of Health, announced that Egypt received 1, 842, 750 Pfizer vaccine doses early this week.

The shipment is granted by the United States through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Abdel Ghaffar highlighted that Pfizer is authorized by the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA).

The two-dose vaccine is considered the only one that would be used in vaccinating school students aged 15 years old.

In addition, it is the only vaccine that has been authorized for children by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

On Thursday, Egypt’s Health Ministry reported 1985 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country’s total up to 417453 .

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths has now reached 22496 nationwide after the ministry announced 36 deaths.

About 1991 patients were discharged from quarantine at isolation hospitals, raising the total number of fully-recovered cases to 351418 .
