UK Foreign Secretary Highlights Egypt's Crucial Role in Middle East Stability

​British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper stated that Egypt's role in promoting stability across the Middle East and Africa has become more critical than ever, particularly in light of escalating regional tensions.

​In a post on the platform X, the Foreign Secretary wrote: "Delighted to welcome Foreign Minister Abdelatty to London yesterday. We discussed strengthening the UK-Egypt partnership and deepening our economic ties."

​For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Abdelatty met with Yvette Cooper, the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, during his visit to London.

 The meeting comes within the framework of regular consultations between the two countries to explore ways of enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on the latest regional developments.

Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that at the beginning of the meeting, Minister Abdelatty praised the ongoing development in Egyptian-British relations. 

Moreover, FM expressed Egypt's aspiration to continue developing bilateral ties across various fields of mutual interest in the coming period. 

He also emphasized the importance of continuing meetings for the various mechanisms of the Egyptian-British Association Agreement, signed in December 2020, to discuss cooperation files with the participation of officials from both sides.

​FM further underscored the significant importance Egypt attaches to strengthening its economic relations with the United Kingdom, expressing the country's anticipation to attract more British investments. 

He also noted that the United Kingdom ranks among the top countries with cumulative investments in Egypt across numerous sectors, alongside fostering cooperation in cultural, educational, and defense fields.

​The spokesperson added that the meeting also touched upon regional developments, foremost among which was the path of the US-Iranian negotiations. 

In this regard, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's relentless efforts to contain the escalation in the region in cooperation with regional and international partners. 

Moreover, he reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast position calling for prioritizing diplomacy and negotiations as the sole path to resolve the current crisis.

On Regional De-escalation, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of supporting the US-Iranian negotiating track to halt escalation, enhance regional security, and achieve stability.

​Furthermore, he pointed out the severe economic repercussions of prolonged tensions, stressing the vital need to guarantee freedom of navigation in international waterways as a fundamental pillar for global economic stability and international trade. 

He also renewed Egypt's full solidarity with the brotherly Gulf States against any practices aimed at undermining their security and stability.
