UK's Downing Street said, On Thursday, “We will obviously continue to work closely with Egypt as the hosts of COP27 and to make sure that all countries are making progress on the historic commitments they made at the Glasgow climate pact.”

The government added that it will be committed” to its net zero targets and to “leading international and domestic action to tackle climate change”.

Regarding the UK's participation at COP 27, the Spokesperson of Downing Street said: “The UK will be fully represented by other senior ministers as well as COP president Alok Sharma."

UK COP president Alok Sharma will lead the negotiations on behalf of the UK in Egypt next month as Downing Street confirmed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak won't attend the summit.

Previously, AFP reported that Egypt renewed its invitation to King Charles III for COP 27 which would be held next month in Sharm El Sheikh.

Senior Diplomat Mohamed Nasr said: "From our point of view in relation to his majesty King Charles, it’s an open invitation."

Nast told journalists in a briefing: "He has been a very strong advocate for climate action and a role model," adding: "We still hope that he can make it."

The diplomate highlighted that more than 90 heads of state and government confirmed their presence at the summit, which will be concerned with accelerating cuts in carbon emissions and providing climate finance for developing countries.

Early this month, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III won't attend the summit as former Prime Minister Liz Truss objected his participation.

The UK hosted the last edition of the summit, COP26 UN climate conference, in Glasgow, which tackled the issues of deforestation and methane emissions.
