UK foreign office, on Friday, urged all British nationals in Afghanistan to leave the country, citing the worsening security situation.

"The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advise against all travel to Afghanistan," travel advice on the government's website said.

It also emphasized that all British nationals in Afghanistan are advised to leave immediately by commercial means, calling on them to advise the embassy in Kabul of their departure plans.

The Taliban captured an Afghan provincial capital and assassinated the government’s top media officer in Kabul, dealing twin high-profile blows to the Western-backed administration.

Consequently, the UN warned that this war is entering a "deadlier and more destructive phase", noting that 1,000 civilians had been killed in the past month due to the Taliban attacks.

The media officer was shot dead at a mosque in the capital, days after the Taliban warned they would target senior administration officials in retaliation for increased air strikes.

“Unfortunately, the savage terrorists have committed a cowardly act once again and martyred a patriotic Afghan,” interior ministry spokesman Mirwais Stanikzai said citing the death of Dawa Khan Menapal.
