British Ambassador to Egypt Mark Bryson-Richardson said the United Kingdom expects more of its allies and partners to follow suit in recognizing the State of Palestine, stressing that a two-state solution remains the only viable path toward peace and security in the region.
In a telveised interview, Bryson-Richardson noted that London recently took the step in coordination with close partners such as Canada and Australia, adding: “We anticipate more of our allies and partners will recognize the State of Palestine in the near future.”
The ambassador emphasized that Britain’s focus is on advancing efforts toward a political resolution. “I will not speculate on Israeli reactions, but our message is clear: the only way to ensure a safe and prosperous future for both Palestinians and Israelis lies in the two-state solution, and we are determined to push this forward,” he said.
He underlined that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza is the “critical first step,” alongside ensuring humanitarian access and the release of hostages. “This week our attention is on creating conditions that can pave the way toward a lasting resolution of the conflict,” Bryson-Richardson added.
The UK’s recognition of Palestine has been described as a historic move aimed at reviving hope in the peace process, which has been stalled for years amid escalating violence in Gaza and the West Bank.
