The UK government has come under scrutiny for its alleged use of covert tactics as it provides around £100 million in additional funding to Rwanda for the reception of asylum seekers, according to The Guardian today.

According to a letter from Matthew Rickroft, a civil servant in the UK's Home Office, around £140 million was already disbursed in April of this year, with an additional £50 million expected to be allocated next year.

The newspaper pointed out that UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had introduced a draft emergency law to grant British ministers the authority to disregard judgments from the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, leading to the resignation of the UK's immigration minister, Robert Jenrick.

The new UK immigration minister, Tom Pursglove, announced today that the draft law was an important step in advancing the plan.

The controversy surrounds the UK's approach to managing asylum seekers and its relationship with Rwanda, with critics questioning the transparency and legality of these agreements.
