Uganda registered another COVID-19 case, the Health Ministry announced on Sunday evening. This brings to 54 the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.

The confirmed case is among the samples of 169 people tested on Sunday by the Uganda Virus Research Institute-UVRI, according to the Ministry of health.

The Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, said while Uganda had registered one more case, the release of four patients from Entebbe is good news.

"The total number of confirmed cases is now 54 in Uganda. Good news is that we have discharged four patients from Entebbe Hospital," she said.

Uganda discharged four COVID-19 patients on Sunday after confirmatory tests showed that they had fully recovered from the deadly virus. The confirmed cases are people who had just returned to the country mostly from the United Arab Emirates-UAE.

The Health Ministry also discharged 300 people from institutional quarantine from various isolation centers in Entebbe Municipality in Wakiso district where they spent the mandatory 14 days and tested negative.

Apparently, the Health Ministry is tracing over 14000 travelers who entered the country between February and March 2020 for testing for COVID-19.

It follows new research showing that the disease can incubate for more than 30 days in some cases. The Health Ministry has so far carried out more than 3000 COVID-19 tests.

Uganda is still in a partial lockdown as one of the measures to control the spread of the pandemic.

It is worthy to note that Arab Contractors, Egyptian Engineering company, donated early this month 75 million Uganda shillings to Uganda's Ministry of Health to help in curbing COVID-19, equipping health workers and assisting vulnerable people in the East African country.
