UAE to Grant Citizenship to Investors, Other Professionals

The United Arab Emirates adopted amendments, to grant citizenship to investors and other professionals including scientists, doctors and their families, according to the Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Saturday.

“We adopted law amendments that allow granting the UAE citizenship to investors, specialized talents & professionals including scientists, doctors, engineers, artists, authors and their families. The new directives aim to attract talents that contribute to our development journey,” Al Maktoum said on Twitter.

“The UAE cabinet, local Emiri courts and executive councils will nominate those eligible for the citizenship under clear criteria set for each category,” he added in another tweet.

The Prime Minister noted that “The law allows receivers of the UAE passport to keep their existing citizenship.”

Last year, the UAE government decided to grant doctors and virologists in the country a renewable visas valid for ten years.

The government has also announced its intention to grant "golden residency" to experts in the field of artificial intelligence and computer science and students, who do an outstanding performance in schools.

In 2019, the government extended its “golden” visa system, which can be renewed every ten years, to a large number of wealthy investors, aiming at infusion of funds into the region's economies.

The UAE has been exerting efforts for years to consolidate a positive image as one of the most important Arab countries, that attract talent and skills, especially Dubai, which is presented as one of the smart cities where technological innovations are accelerating.
