A high-level delegation from the UAE Space Agency, led by Ahmad Al Falasi, Minister of Sport and Chairman of the Agency’s Board, visited several key institutions in Japan to strengthen bilateral cooperation in space science, technology, and industry.

Al Falasi reaffirmed that the UAE is advancing a clear vision for the future of its space sector under the National Space Strategy 2030, which aims to build a sustainable space economy, support scientific research, and empower the private sector to play an active role in space projects and advanced technologies.

He stressed that the UAE remains committed to serving as a global bridge for international cooperation, opening new horizons for partnerships in science, technology, and exploration.

Eng. Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, described the visit as an important milestone in strengthening strategic partnerships with Japan, a global leader in space exploration. He noted that UAE-Japan collaboration paves the way for a new phase of scientific and industrial partnerships that will benefit both regions and the wider world.

The delegation began its visit with meetings at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, including discussions with Vice Minister for International Affairs Takehiko Matsuo, focusing on joint efforts to advance space-related industries and foster innovation in exploration technologies.

The UAE delegation also toured the Tsukuba Space Center of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), where Al Falasi met JAXA President Hiroshi Yamakawa.

The team reviewed advanced projects, including space-sensing systems, satellite laboratories, and deep-space exploration programs.

In addition, the delegation visited Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Tobishima Plant and met Iwao Igarashi, Senior Vice President and Head of the Space Systems Sector. Talks centred on enhancing cooperation in space manufacturing, knowledge transfer, and capacity building.
