The United Arab Emirates has urgently dispatched a specialised search and rescue team to assist those affected by the devastating earthquake in Myanmar.

The mission, carried out by the UAE Search and Rescue Team from Abu Dhabi Police, the National Guard, and the Joint Operations Command, follows the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

This deployment is part of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to providing immediate humanitarian aid to countries impacted by natural disasters, including earthquakes, cyclones, and other crises.

The initiative reflects the nation’s global humanitarian role, reinforcing its dedication to offering swift assistance, supporting disaster-stricken communities, and providing relief to those in urgent need.

The UAE continues to uphold its longstanding approach of standing by affected nations in times of crisis, demonstrating its deep-rooted humanitarian values and commitment to international cooperation.

Through rapid intervention, the country aims to alleviate suffering, support the injured, and bring relief to those facing hardship. The UAE remains one of the first nations to respond to such emergencies worldwide.

On Friday, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Mandalay in central Myanmar, followed by a strong aftershock measuring 6.7 just minutes later.

The disaster has claimed the lives of more than 2,056 people in Myanmar and at least 18 in neighbouring Thailand.
