The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent two planes to provide urgent humanitarian needs for those affected by the floods in Sudan and South Sudan.
The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ordered concerned officials to send a plane carrying 100 tons of relief materials from the warehouses of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the International Humanitarian City in Dubai to help the victims of the floods that struck different parts of Sudan and South Sudan.
Under the directives of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority sent a relief plane to Sudan to provide urgent and necessary humanitarian needs to support those affected by the torrents and floods in a number of states.
The plane carried relief materials, including large quantities of medical supplies, food and shelter materials, such as tents, blankets and tarpaulins, in addition to sanitary materials used in sanitation.
The delegation also will also undertake a number of humanitarian tasks during its presence in Sudan; they will monitor on the ground the devastating effects of floods and their impact on hundreds of thousands of Sudanese in about 16 states.
The delegation will also closely monitor the other most important needs that the Sudanese arena needs in the next phase of aid, in preparation for providing it as part of the humanitarian agency’s program for the benefit of the affected, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The delegation has intensified its contacts with concerned Sudanese officials to find out the repercussions of the torrential disaster and floods on the local population there. They (delegation) aim to identify their most important needs at this stage. The focus has been on medicine, food and shelter requirements at the present time.
