The United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Defence said two national gas tankers were targeted in what it described as an Iranian attack, as maritime authorities reported a separate missile strike on an oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Moreover, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had received a report that an oil tanker was struck by a missile while sailing through the southern traffic lane of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.
The UKMTO did not immediately disclose the identity of the vessel, its flag, or the extent of any damage or casualties. Maritime security agencies are continuing to monitor the situation.
The UAE Ministry of Defence did not immediately provide further details on the incident involving the two gas tankers, including their location or the extent of the damage.
The reported attacks come amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, raising concerns over the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
