UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of working towards an immediate ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, ensuring full protection for civilians in line with international law, and guaranteeing the safe and adequate provision of humanitarian aid to alleviate their suffering.
This came during a phone call between the two leaders, where they discussed several regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the latest developments in the Middle East, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
Both sides stressed the need to make every effort to contain tensions in the region and prevent the expansion of the conflict, which poses a threat to regional security and stability. They also emphasized the importance of finding a path towards a just, comprehensive, and stable peace in the region based on the two-state solution.
They reviewed various aspects of the relations between the UAE and the European Union and its member states, exploring ways to strengthen and develop these relations in a manner that serves the common interests of both sides.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed reiterated the UAE’s commitment to enhancing strategic relations with the EU and its member states, promoting shared development, and supporting Gulf-European cooperation for the benefit of both parties.
The UAE President also expressed his country's keenness to cooperate with various regional and international partners, including the EU, to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and provide humanitarian support to civilians, praising the EU's humanitarian role in this regard.
For her part, Ursula von der Leyen expressed her appreciation for the UAE's efforts to support regional stability and its humanitarian initiatives in Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the UAE and the EU and its institutions across various fields.
