Get to Know Emirati Women’s Achievements on UAE National Day

UAE people are remembering Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, the founder of UAE, on the occasion of the 49th National Day of the UAE on 2 December, He used to urge the Emirati women to engage in the society.

He was also one of the strongest supporters of the Emirati women’s situations. Therefore, a number of women's names are mentioned in various fields in UAE.

Since its early days, women carried special positions in the country as Sheikh Zayed backed the formation of the first Emirati Women union in 1975.

In addition, he supported the efforts of the unforgettable Emirati women icon Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

Currently, there are five female ministers in the country's cabinet. One of them is 22 years old. Moreover, there are seven female members at the Federal National Council.

Regarding the position of women in the diplomatic field, there are seven Emirati female ambassadors including the Emirati Ambassador to the UN.

Furthermore, Emarati Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi was elected as the new president of the International Publishers Association last month.

She is the first elected Arab woman to hold this position and the second woman to hold this position in 124 years according to an official statement released by IPA.

 

Outstanding Emirati Fashion Designers

Many Emirati women mastered the art of fashion designing. They have remarkable contributions to the jewelry, bags, and outfits industry.

International fashion designer Mona al Mansouri succeeded in establishing Dubai Fashion Week to be equivalent to Paris Fashion Week.

Various names also are singled out in this field such as Mariam El Madfai, Gamila El Mansouri, Shamsa El Mohairy, and others.

Emirati people are known for their love of jewelry that is why many names left marks in this industry like Azza Al Qubaisi. She is the first Emirati female jeweler and she opened the door for more artists.

Al Nahyan’s Granddaughter

Sheikha Mariam Al Nahyan is considered one of the most iconic Emirati jewelers. Besides her role as UAE’s ruler’s granddaughter, she placed the real Emirati spirit and heritage in her designs by making use of her country’s artistic symbols.

She succeeded in proving herself and achieving her goal regardless of the challenges she faced.

She expressed, “Yes, there are a lot of restrictions and challenges facing me as granddaughter, daughter, and sister.”

“Moreover, I am the owner of the project and the head of the working team. I should make sure of every step and take care of every detail related to work,” she added.

Regarding being a granddaughter for Sheikh Zayed, the president of UAE, she highlighted, “I am lucky because I learned a lot from my family and its values were my guider.”

First Collaboration Project

Emirati jeweler Hamida El Fahim was selected by the American Tyler Ellis to establish a regional collaboration project.

Finally, Sheikh Zayed, (May Allah have mercy on his soul) would be proud of his daughters who achieved his dreams as he stated, “I dream of the day that my daughters become capable of doing their role similar to the women in the other Arab countries.”
