The United Arab Emirates said on Sunday it intercepted three Iranian cruise missiles over its territorial waters and reported a fire at an industrial petroleum facility in Fujairah following what authorities described as a drone strike, amid heightened regional tensions in the Gulf.

The incidents come against the backdrop of long-standing maritime and security frictions between Iran and Gulf Arab states, with the Strait of Hormuz—through which a large share of global oil shipments passes—remaining a persistent flashpoint for escalation risks.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said the missiles were intercepted over maritime areas, while Fujairah authorities reported the fire at a key energy infrastructure zone.
