The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as an Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker Wadyan as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack represented a serious threat to the safety and security of international navigation.
The ministry described the incident as a dangerous escalation aimed at undermining security and stability in one of the world’s most important waterways.
The UAE also expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirmed its support for all measures aimed at protecting the security of Saudi vessels, safeguarding national interests and ensuring freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.
The ministry said the attack constituted a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which stressed the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and rejecting attacks on commercial vessels or disruption of international maritime routes.
The UAE warned that targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for pressure or economic blackmail was unacceptable.
It added that such actions pose a direct threat to regional stability, global energy security and the safety of international trade.
