The United States (U.S.) Embassy in Cairo mourned the death of Egyptian iconic star Ragaa el-Gedaway, who passed away earlier today at the age of 82 after suffering severe complications of COVID-19.

"The U.S. Embassy in Cairo offers its deep condolences to the family of renowned Egyptian actress Ragaa El Gedaway on her passing, and to the millions of her fans in Egypt and around the world," the embassy tweeted.

"We mourn alongside the Egyptian and Arab artistic community the loss of this star of Egyptian film, television, stage, and radio, who brought elegance and dedication to her art for over six decades," it added.

It is worth mentioning that, the late legendary actress tested positive for the coronavirus in May, two days before she wrapped up filming for the TV series “Le’bet El Nesyan”.

She was moved to a hospital in Ismailia for treatment, where she spent 46 days before death.

Last week, a source at the hospital revealed that the actress had reportedly been transferred into the intensive care unit (ICU), as her health worsened.
