Two high-ranking officials from the European Union (EU) are visiting the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, today, Friday, in the first visit of its type since the commencement of the Russian-Ukrainian war on February 24.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, shared a photo on Twitter of herself in front of a train with Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy leader.
"We're going to Kyiv," wrote Der Leyen at the top of the shot, and Borrell tweeted his departure for Kyiv, accompanied by von der Leyen.
Observers say the visit, which comes more than 6 weeks after the war began, may appear to be late.
