The Embassy of India in Cairo marked the 12th International Yoga Day on June 21, 2026, with a flagship event at the Giza Pyramids.
Held under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," the celebration brought together senior diplomatic and government officials, yoga practitioners, and members of the public to highlight global unity and holistic well-being.
In his address, Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy emphasized that yoga has evolved into a global symbol of public health and inclusivity.
He noted that hosting the event at the Giza Pyramids beautifully symbolized the intersection of two ancient cultures.
Dr. Ashraf Mohie, Director General of the Giza Pyramids Area and prominent Egyptian artist Mohamed Khamis, attended as guests of honor, both praising the event as a testament to the strengthening bilateral relations between India and Egypt.
The main celebration capped off a month-long series of interactive initiatives led by the embassy and the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in partnership with the Golden Years Foundation, a specialized session engaged nearly 500 Egyptian senior citizens to promote mobility and wellness.
Collaborating with the Egyptian Caricature Society, the "Yoga Cartoon" contest attracted over 200 artists from 33 countries, using humor to explore mental and physical health.
The embassy also hosted a "Your Favorite Yoga Photo" contest showcasing practitioners at Egyptian landmarks, alongside a digital instructional video series demonstrating core yoga postures.
Outreach expanded beyond the capital, with cultural workshops and "Indian Culture Day" events drawing enthusiastic crowds in the Ismailia and Alexandria governorates.
