Two students from Al-Azhar secured top global rankings at the 28th edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award in 2026, which drew more than 5,000 contestants from 105 countries.
Jana Ihab won first place in the female category, while Omar Ali Awad placed second in the male category, following rigorous competition in Quran memorization and recitation.
The achievement comes under the patronage of Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb, with oversight from Al-Azhar officials as part of efforts to support talented students and enhance their global competitiveness.
Mohamed El-Dewini, deputy of Al-Azhar, congratulated the winners, praising them for raising Egypt’s and Al-Azhar’s profile internationally and reaffirming the institution’s longstanding leadership in Quranic studies.
