Twitter is closing its newsletter platform Revue in January 2023 after it had acquired the latter in January 2021, media outlets reported.

Revue enabled writers to monetize their Twitter following by blending their newsletters directly into the Twitter timeline, competing with platforms like Substack and Medium.

The platform announced: “We’ve made the difficult decision to shut down Revue.” Writers have until 18 January 2023 to retrieve their data before it all gets deleted.

Former Twitter founder and CEO Jack Dorsey started a Revue newsletter to publish his thoughts about the Twitter Files, a series of threads posted by journalists like Bari Weiss and Matt Taibbi.

“Well… after 17 hours, my career as a newsletter writer is coming to an end,” Dorsey tweeted.

Last November, Twitter's Owner Elon Musk affirmed that users would no longer be confined to the 280-character limit, as they will be able to write longer tweets soon.

"Ability to do long tweets coming soon," Musk wrote while responding to a thread of 82 tweets.

In April, Musk expressed his support of longer tweets before fully acquiring the platform in October.

Just one day after closing his deal on the social media giant, Musk again showed his willingness to ditch the character limits by replying, "Absolutely," to a user who asked, "Can we get rid of character limits, or at least greatly expand it?"
