Twitter's services came back to work after the app went down for around 40 minutes Thursday morning, in a major outage for the social network.

Issues started with the service at around 8:05 AM ET, with many users reporting “over capacity” error messages that said, “this page is down.” The problems affected Twitter web, mobile, and even TweetDeck app.

Downdetector reported that thousands of users complained of issues with Twitter, but Twitter’s own status page claimed: “all systems operational.”

At 9:10 AM ET Twitter tweeted, “we’re working to get it back up and running for everyone,” but it appears that most people are already connecting again.

This is the first major Twitter outage since a series of problems for the social network in February. The platform was down twice in a week in February, with users unable to access the service in parts of the US due to a “technical bug that was preventing timelines from loading and Tweets from posting.”

Last December, social media giants Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp faced a global outage, leading more people to join Twitter. The platform appeared to enjoy the new attention as he welcome the newcomers with a sweet, yet teasing message; “hello literally everyone.”

“Twitter records highest number of people on its platform at the one time,” the Spectator Index tweeted.

The three social media giants went back to work the following day after Mark Zuckerberg took to YouTube to address people about what had gone wrong with the social apps.
