Twitter announced on Monday that Peiter Zatko, was appointed in a new position as a security head , giving him a broad mandate to recommend changes in structure and practices. Zatko, is one of the world's best-regarded hackers to tackle everything from engineering missteps to misinformation.
The Economic Times reported that he will examine "information security, site integrity, physical security, platform integrity - which starts to touch on abuse and manipulation of the platform -and engineering.
Meanwhile, Twitter faces numerous security challenges. A year ago, the US government accused two men of spying for Saudi Arabia when they worked at Twitter years earlier, saying that they passed along private information about the kingdom's critics.
Also, in July a group of young hackers tricked employees and won access to internal tools, which let them change account settings and then tweet from the accounts of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Tesla Chief Execu.
Noteworthy, Twitter Inc rolled out its new long-awaited Application Programming Interface (API) software on Wednesday, nearly a month after the social media company delayed the platform’s launch following the hack of several high-profile accounts.
According to Reuters, The API platform provides broad access to public Twitter data that users have chosen to share, according to the microblogging site.
The launch was postponed due to an unrelated hack that affected some of the social media platform’s top voices including U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden, reality TV star Kim Kardashian and former U.S. President Barack Obama.
