The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, AFAD, revealed new information regarding the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria, with a magnitude of 7.8 and 7.6 on the Richter scale.

The AFAD said that the earth's crust moved by 7.3 meters due to the Kahraman Maraş earthquake.

"The earth's crust shook violently for two minutes during the two earthquakes. The depth of these two earthquakes ranged between 8.5 and 10 kilometers below the surface of the earth," Orhan Tatar, director of the earthquake risk reduction in AFAD, said in a press conference held in Ankara on Wednesday.

The Turkish news agency "Anatolia" reported that the double earthquake struck a large area of Turkey that is larger than the area of many countries in the world.

Orhan Tatar warned that Turkey is facing an unusual situation, and the total number of aftershocks so far has reached 3,858.

The number of aftershocks whose magnitude ranged between 3 and 4 on the "Richter" scale amounted to 1253, while the number of aftershocks between 4 and 5 on the "Richter" scale amounted to 394, and the number of aftershocks whose magnitude ranged between 5 to 6 degrees was 38.
