Turkiye Earthquacke: Death Toll Rises to 36K

Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Authority announced on Thursday, that the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck the country has risen to 36,187, according to "Sky News” news website.

It is noteworthy that Iraq sent - earlier - a number of relief materials to Syria and Turkiye, while the specialized team continues to rescue the victims of the earthquake in Turkiye.

In Seoul, the South Korean National Assembly adopted today a resolution urging swift measures to support Turkey and Syra.

The resolution was approved in the assembly's plenary session with the support of 228 out of 229 deputies, while one deputy abstained from voting.

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit near the city of Kahramanmaras in southern Turkey, located 33 km from Gaziantep, a major city and regional capital in southern Turkiye, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.

The authority confirmed that 32 aftershocks occurred after the earthquake, the largest of which was 6.6 degrees on the Richter scale.

Commenting on the earthquake, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that ambulances and rescue teams were sent immediately to the areas affected by the earthquake, adding, "We hope to overcome the disaster with the least possible losses."

The earthquake was felt by the residents of Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Cyprus, Armenia, Syria, and the residents of some Egyptian governorates, including Greater Cairo.
