Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that no party in the Libyan internal war will achieve victory, adding, "There will be no end to the war in Libya if we do not stop it."
During his assessment of Turkish foreign policy in 2019, Çavuşoğlu stated, "Khalifa Haftar has superior air power in Libya."
It is worth mentioning that, the Turkish parliament approved on Thursday the deployment of troops, advisors, and equipment to Libya to assist the GNA, the internationally recognized authority that governs only a small part of the country.
On his part, Libyan Commander Khalifa Haftar threatened to “confront and expel” foreign forces on Friday.
“In order to counter the Turkish aggression, we announce jihad and general mobilization,” Haftar said. “The peaceful Turkish people will stand up against the invaders who are pushing their army to be wiped out in Libya.”
Earlier, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay told state-run Anadolu Agency that Turkey would send “the necessary number (of troops) whenever there is a need."
He added: “If the other side adopts a different stance and says ‘Okay we are withdrawing, we are backing down,’ then why would we go?”
Turkey’s main opposition party, CHP, earlier said its lawmakers would vote against the motion because the deployment would embroil Turkey in another conflict and make it a party to the further “shedding of Muslim blood.”
