Turkish Authorities Arrest 768 People Involved in Building Violations in Earthquake-affected Areas

The Turkish authorities have arrested 237 people out of 768 suspected of involvement in irregularities within the buildings that collapsed in the earthquake disaster on February 6.

In the framework of the investigations conducted by the public prosecutor regarding violations in the collapsed buildings, it was decided to arrest 237 people, including 166 contractors, out of 768 suspects who were arrested in the framework of the ongoing operations by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department and the General Directorate of Security.

Today (Friday), security sources said that operations are still continuing to seize the suspects who are identified by examining the collapsed buildings and that 768 suspects whose identities were identified in the relevant investigations were arrested, and 237 suspects, including 166 contractors, were arrested after completing the investigations. With them, they were taken to court.

The sources added that studies are being conducted in a multifaceted manner in line with expert reports regarding samples taken from the wreckage and that other suspects may be arrested as part of the investigations.
