Passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight were safely evacuated after a fire broke out on the aircraft following its landing in Kathmandu, temporarily shutting down the airport in Nepal’s capital.

According to Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority, the incident occurred after the Airbus A330 aircraft arrived from Istanbul, when a fire erupted in the plane’s rear right tyre shortly after landing.

Airport authorities confirmed that all 277 passengers and 11 crew members were evacuated safely without reports of fatalities.

Emergency teams managed to bring the fire under control after airport operations were suspended for approximately one hour.

Officials stated that the temporary closure affected flight movements at Kathmandu’s international airport while firefighters and emergency crews responded to the incident.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
