First Lady of the Republic of Turkey, Emine Erdoğan led the International “Zero Waste” Forum held in Istanbul this week, uniting environmental leaders from 63 countries under one urgent mission to create a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable planet.

The forum, a flagship initiative under  Erdoğan’s long-standing environmental advocacy, brought together ministers, diplomats, and prominent figures in sustainability to address the world’s mounting ecological challenges.

It stands as a continuation of her global campaign to promote the “Zero Waste” movement a model pioneered in Turkey that has gained international recognition through the United Nations.

In her keynote address, First Lady Erdoğan emphasized that achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hinges on genuine international solidarity.

“We are striving for a world where no one is left behind,” she said, underscoring the need for all nations, developed and developing alike, to shoulder shared environmental responsibilities.

“With climate crises and ecological degradation threatening lives across the globe, we can no longer afford fragmented efforts,” she warned. “Our future depends on equitable cooperation and long-term commitment.”

Erdoğan also highlighted Turkey’s dedication to global climate action, noting that her country considers international collaboration a cornerstone of its environmental strategy. She called on attending delegates to move beyond pledges and toward meaningful partnerships, centered on fair distribution of duties and inclusive solutions.

One of the notable moments during the forum was her meeting with Egyptian environmental entrepreneur Rawya Mansour, who presented a portfolio of her innovative sustainability projects in Egypt. The encounter reflected Mrs. Erdoğan’s commitment to amplifying women’s voices and leadership in environmental innovation worldwide.

Known for her visionary leadership in the environmental sphere, First Lady Emine Erdoğan continues to position Turkey as a hub for green diplomacy. Her Zero Waste initiative, launched in 2017, has since evolved into a global platform, influencing policy discussions at the United Nations and across continents.

As the forum concluded, Erdoğan expressed hope that the event would serve as “a launchpad for strategic partnerships,” inspiring nations to align not only around common goals, but around common action.

Under her stewardship, the Zero Waste Forum has once again proven that the path to environmental justice must be paved with unity, fairness, and unwavering resolve.
